Lake Bell

Lake Siegel Bell was born March 24, 1979. She is an American actress, screenwriter, and director. Starring in a variety of television series including Boston Legal (2004-2006), Surface (2006), How to Make It in America (2010), Children’s Hospital (2008–2011), and Bless This Mess (2021-2025). She also appeared in films such as Over Her Dead Body (2008) and What Happens in Vegas (2008).

Early life

Bell was born in New York City. Robin Bell, Bell’s mother, is the owner of Robin Bell Design in New York. Harvey Siegel, a real estate developer, is her father. After the Virginia International Raceway had closed, he bought it and turned it into a racetrack country Club. He also owned New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Bell’s father was Jewish, and her mother Protestant. Bell stated that her family was “comically dysfunctional”.

Bell attended The Chapin School, New York, and Westminster School, Simsbury (Connecticut). Bell was a junior in high school and attended School Year Abroad (SYA), a school in Rennes, France. She lived in Vero Beach, Florida for part of her teenage years and attended Saint Edwards School. After attending Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs in New York, she decided to concentrate on acting and transferred to Rose Bruford College, London. This college emphasized the arts and theater.

Rose Bruford was her home. She acted in plays such as The Seagull and The Children’s Hour. Six Degrees of Separation, Six Degrees of Separation. Light Shining in Buckinghamshire.


Bell returned to America in 2002 and began her career with roles in Speakeasy (a movie about two men who become unlikely friendships after a minor traffic accident) and two episodes of ER, a medical TV drama. In 2003, she had her first major role. After her role in the psychological thriller I Love Your Work she was cast as the female lead in NBC’s television movie War Stories alongside Jeff Goldblum. Next, she played Victoria Carlson, Alicia Silverstone’s wisecracking friend in NBC’s comedy-drama Miss Match. Bell made her debut in 2004 as Sally Heep on the last four episodes of The Practice. She carried her character into the spinoff Boston Legal where she was a regular cast member, until she quit the series in 2005. In an Audi commercial, she was also paired with Dustin Hoffman. The commercial spoofs Hoffman’s well-known film The Graduate.

Bell was the main character in the science-fiction series Surface which aired from September 2005 to May 2006. Bell also starred in Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders (2006), a film about the Hillside Stranglers of the late 1970s. She returned to Boston Legal for the second episode, reprising her role, Sally Heep (opposing counsel to Alan Shore). She was the lead actress in Under Still Waters (2008), where she won the Newport Beach Film Festival Award in Outstanding Performance in Acting. Eva Longoria and Paul Rudd also starred in Over Her Dead Body. She was Cameron Diaz’s best friend in the romantic comedy What Happens in Vegas. And she played the wife to Colin Farrell in Pride, a crime drama.

Personal life

Bell started dating Scott Campbell in 2011, an artist and tattoo artist. They met while he was playing himself in an episode on How to Make It in America. Bell was born on Bell’s birthday, March 2012. They were married at the Marigny Opera House, New Orleans, Louisiana on June 1, 2013. Her representative confirmed that Bell had delivered their daughter Nova in October 2014. Bell gave birth in May 2017 to their second child, Ozgood. In October 2020, Bell filed for divorce.
