Chrissy Costanza

Christina Nicola Costanza, born August 23, 1995, is an American singer, songwriter and musician. She is most well-known as the primary songwriter and lead singer of pop rock band Against The Current.

Early life

Costanza was born in New Jersey on August 23, 1995 into an Italian American family. Michael is her younger brother. It was one of her childhood dreams to be a musician. Through a mutual friend, she met Dan Gow (current band member) and Will Ferri (former member).

She attended Immaculate Heart Academy, Washington Township, Bergen County.

Between 2013 and 2014, she attended Fordham University.

Career

Costanza met Dan Gow in 2011 through a mutual friend, and joined their band. Against The Current quickly began to write original songs. Costanza wrote most of the lyrics. They started posting covers of popular songs to YouTube. In 2012, Against The Current released “Thinking”, their first single. Costanza started a YouTube channel, titled Costanza, and began posting beauty videos. Against the Current toured with Alex Goot during the summer 2013.

Infinity was the first EP released by Against the Current in 2014. Access Hollywood aired Costanza’s appearance on June 6. Against The Current’s second EP, Gravity, was released in February 2015. Against The Current signed a record agreement with Fueled by Ramen at the end of April 2015. They embarked on the first ever world tour at the end of August with the “Gravity Tour”. On May 20, 2016, Against The Current released In Our Bones, their debut album. After the album’s release, Costanza performed on multiple occasions with Alex Goot during his May tour. Against The Current was invited to perform a last-minute set at the Download Festival while they were in the UK. Kerrang! is a UK magazine that covers rock music. It describes Costanza’s role as “their fearless frontwoman” and says the band are “writing their own future”. Rock Sound announced at the end of June that Costanza would be receiving her own column in their monthly magazine. It will discuss Against The Current’s debut album, write her own lyrics, tour, and give advice to aspiring bands.

Against the Current recorded the song “Legends Never Die” for League of Legends as a tie in for the 2017 League of Legends World Championship. In 2018, Against the Current released Past Lives, their second studio album. After returning to Reading and Leeds Festival, Against The Current made their debut at Lollapalooza 2019, and Pentaport Rock Festival 2019. Costanza worked with Cailin Russo to create the song “Phoenix”, which was performed by the band at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship in Paris, France. She also performed the song at the Bilibili New Years Eve Concert, Beijing, China. Costanza was the character Kyoka Jiro of the anime series My Hero Academia, performing the songs “Each Goal”, and “Hero too”.

Costanza hosted the guest house on streaming media channel VENN from July 2020 through May 2021. Chrissy and the 2019 League of Legends World Championships FunPlus Phoenix winners teamed up to release “Phoenix”, their 2021 anthem. (This song is different from the 2019 League of Legends World Championships song with the same title).

Against the Current and League of Legends European Championship collaborated on a song called “Wildfire” on January 10, 2022. This song was part of a promotion for the 2022 spring season of the League of Legends esports league.

Personal life

Costanza was in an affair with Cameron Hurley, We Are the In Crowd, in 2015. They split in 2019, partly inspired by the Against The Current song “that will not save us”.

Tucker Roberts, the president of Spectacor Gaming, and the son of Comcast CEO Brian L. Roberts, began dating Costanza in February 2021. They currently live in Los Angeles together.
