Jenna Lee

Susanna Reid, born 10 December 1970, is an English journalist and television presenter. From 2003 to 2014, she was co-presenter on BBC Breakfast with Bill Turnbull (and Charlie Stayt). She was runner-up in the eleventh series, 2013 of Strictly Come Dancing. Reid, Kate Garraway, Ben Shephard and Piers Morgan have been the ITV Breakfast presenters of Good Morning Britain since 2014. From 2010 to 2011, she also hosted Sunday Morning Live on BBC One.

Education and early life

Reid, the youngest of three children was born in Croydon (South London). From 1975 to 1981, she attended the Croham Hurst School in South London. She then went on to the Croydon High School (1981-1987) and St. Paul’s Girls School (1987-1989) in London. When she was nine years old, her parents divorced and separated. Her father was a manager consultant and her mother was an RN. Reid was an actress as an adolescent in Agatha Christie’s Spider’s Web (1982), with Shirley Anne Field. She then appeared alongside Harriet Walter and Peter Barkworth in The Price (1985), on Channel 4.

Career

Reid started her career at BBC Radio Bristol, and she then became a reporter for Radio 5 Live as well as a producer. After leaving BBC Radio Bristol, Reid joined BBC News 24 where she was a reporter for two years. Reid was three months pregnant when the 23:00 host failed to arrive, so she became a stand in presenter for one hour. This position eventually turned into a permanent job.

Reid was a main presenter on BBC Breakfast. She presented with Bill Turnbull on Mondays. Tuesdays. Wednesdays. Prior to that, she also presented with Charlie Stayt on Fridays. Saturdays. Sundays. Since 2012, she has been the lead presenter Sian Wilkins’s replacement. Reid left Breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays in 2010 to assume a role on Sunday Morning Live. She resumed her BBC Breakfast weekend present duties after the 21st November 2010 finale.

Reid was previously the newsreader for The Andrew Marr Show’s headlines. She briefly replaced Andrew Marr on Sunday, 16 May 2010 for the Sunday newspaper reviews. He arrived late after interviewing David Cameron. After the paper review, Reid was handed to Marr. After Marr’s prolonged absence due to a stroke in January 2013, Reid presented the main program for the first-time on March 10, 2013. Reid presented live BBC coverage from Los Angeles of the 2009 Oscars on 22 February 2009. He also covered the 2010 Oscars coverage on 7 March.

Reid participated in Strictly Come Dancing (series 11) in 2013. Kevin Clifton was her professional partner in dance. They finished joint runners-up.

Awards

The Television and Radio Industries Club named Reid newsreader of year in March 2014. This was a week after she joined ITV. She was again awarded the same award in 2015. She was also awarded an honorary fellowship from Cardiff University in 2015.

Personal life

After 16 years of marriage, Reid and Dominic Cotton, a former sports correspondent, separated in 2014. Reid lives with her children in South London. Reid supports Crystal Palace and visited the Selhurst Park ground of the club with her partner in dance, while she took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2013. In November 2018, Reid disclosed that she was in a relationship to Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish. It was revealed in April 2019 that the relationship had ended.

Reid is a pescetarian. This was something Reid used to talk about with James Martin, the chef, when commenting on Saturday Kitchen’s dishes. She stated that she has “very mild tinnitus” in 2015.
