Kaya Scodelario

Kaya Rose Scodelario Davis (born 13 March 1992) was an English actress. She is best known for her roles in Effy Stonem’s E4 teen drama Skins (2007–2010, 2013), and Teresa (2014-2018). Other roles include Catherine Earnshaw’s Wuthering Heights (2011), Carina Stmyth in Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) and Carole Ann Boone (2019) in Extremely Wicked Shockingly Evil & Vile (2019), Haley Keller (2019), Claire Redfield (2021) in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2020).

Early life

Kaya Rose Humphrey was Kaya Scodelario’s mother. She was born in Haywards Heath (West Sussex), England. Katia Scodelario is her mother. She is a Brazilian accountant originally from Itu, Sao Paulo and moved to England in 1990. Scodelario’s surname derives from her maternal grandfather, an Italian. Roger Humphrey was her father and he died in November 2010.

Scodelario was born to divorced parents. Her mother took her to London at the age of four. After spending their first night together on the streets, they found Holloway Road council flats. She went to Bishop Douglass Catholic School and Islington Arts and Media School. She was a part of school plays and found drama a way to escape bullying. Scodelario’s mother worked multiple jobs to support her family. She suffered from depression and severe anxiety during her teen years. Scodelario stated that she wanted to help but didn’t know how. She moved to Camden to be closer to her mother.

Career

Scodelario, then 14 years old and without any acting experience, was cast as Effy Stonem in the first Skins series. Scodelario was discouraged at auditions because she believed she was too young. However, a producer encouraged her to stay and asked her to read for the role. Although Scodelario had very few speaking lines in her first series, her character developed significantly over the course of 2008. After the cast was replaced by a new group of characters, she became the main character in the 2009 series and 2010. Effy was the only character to appear in series 1 through 4. Filming began in July. Scodelario stated that the 18th November 2009 was her final day of filming and that she would miss the series.

Personal life

Scodelario was in a relationship with Jack O’Connell, her Skins star for approximately a year. They split up in June 2009. However, they remained good friends. From late 2009 to early 2014, she was in a relationship Elliott Tittensor. She supported Tittensor’s arrest for hitting another person while driving uninsured.

Benjamin Walker and Scodelario began to date during filming of The King’s Daughter, in early 2014. They were married in December 2015. They adopted the surname “Scodelario Davis” later. Their first child, a boy, was born in November 2016. Scodelario, who was then pregnant with her second child, announced that she was expecting on September 18, 2021. She gave birth to her daughter in December 2021.

She was voted 13th by FHM’s 100 World’s Most Sexy Women 2010 in the UK.

Scodelario, 12, revealed in October 2017 that she had been sexually abused when she was 12.
