American actress, choreographer, and dancer Allison Renae Holker was born February 6, 1988. Holker has been a choreographer, dancer, and actress on television, film, and concert tours. Her television appearances include on So You Think You Can Dance season 2, as a contestant, and in seasons 7-11 and 14.

Education and early life

Holker was born in Anoka County in Minnesota. She grew up in Orem in Utah and graduated from Timpanogos High School on June 2006. Holker began dancing at nine years old when she was enrolled at The Dance Club in Orem. She began to learn jazz, tap, ballet and contemporary while she was in Orem. She was part of the closing and opening ceremonies at the 2002 Winter Olympics. She was awarded several dance titles, including the Co DANCE national competition in 2004 and the National Senior Outstanding Dancer award at the New York City Dance Alliance 2005.

Career

Holker was part of Earth, Wind and Fire’s opening and closing ceremonies for the Olympic Games 2002. She also performed in the Disney films High School Musical and High School Musical 2. She has appeared in a variety of commercials, advanced to the Top 8 in So You Think You Can Dance’s second season, and performed in the SYTYCD national tour. Louis Van Amstel choreographed a show called Ballroom with a Twist. She also performed with Holker and Clay Aiken, American Idol’s Clay Aiken, in the PBS special Tried and True. Holker was featured on the music video “Jar of Hearts”, by Christina Perri. Holker was one Demi Lovato’s back-dancers in September/October 2011. Holker has also taught at various dance conventions and workshops throughout the country. He has also taken up choreography. Holker worked with Brian Friedman as a backup dancer on The X Factor USA. She performed a routine on Dancing with the Stars with Stephen Boss, April 30, 2013. They danced to “Crystallize”, which was performed live on Lindsey Stirling.

Dancing with the Stars

Holker was announced in August 2014 as one of the professional dancers for the 19th season, Dancing with the Stars. Due to Holker’s limited experience in teaching Latin Ballroom dancing and dancing, controversy erupted at her announcement as a cast member. She was partnered with Jonathan Bennett, an actor from Mean Girls. They were eliminated in Week 6. They finished 9th. Holker was joined by R5 singer and actor Riker Lick in the 20th season. They reached the finals, finishing in second place. Season 21 saw her paired up with Andy Grammer, a singer. They finished in 7th place after Week 8. Due to her pregnancy, she did not appear on season 22. Holker was back for season 23 with the singer-songwriter Kenneth Edmonds. They were eliminated in Week 4, and placed 11th.
