Patti Ann Browne

Patti Ann Browne, born September 10, 1965, is an American journalist and news anchor best known for her work on Fox News Channel between 2000 and 2018.

Education

Browne holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Fordham University, New York City. Browne was the editor of Fordham’s literary magazine Alternative Motifs. Browne was part-time at Fordham and worked for Newsweek Magazine for four years. She also interned for Joan Lunden’s weekly syndicated television show on parenting, “Mother’s Day”, (later “Every Day”)

Fordham’s WFUV-FM (90.7FM) hosted a popular Irish music show. She served as News Director and news anchor for the station of 50,000 watts.

Browne received a master’s degree in communication arts from the New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, New York. Browne attended the school on a full scholarship, which allowed her to teach news-writing and production skills. She was an assignment reporter on NYIT’s award-winning news show LI News Tonight. It airs every night on Long Island cable.

Career

Browne’s broadcast career started in radio at WLIM AM on Long Island, NY. There she was a morning-drive anchor/writer.

Browne was a nightly anchor and news director at WLIG TV 55 in New York City. He also worked on Long Island.

Browne gained network affiliate experience working as a reporter/anchor at WSJV TV in South Bend, Indiana, which was the region’s ABC affiliate at the time. It is now a Fox affiliate. Browne was the station’s Michigan Bureau chief.

Browne joined News 12 Long Island. This 24-hour cable news channel covers Long Island and Nassau. Browne was a general assignment reporter and spent many years in the field covering major stories alongside New York City reporters. Browne was praised for her live coverage of Colin Ferguson’s Long Island Rail Road shooting and her unscripted anchoring for the TWA Flight 800 crash. Browne covered the investigation into the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing. Browne reported from Washington, D.C. on Long Island’s national issues. Browne also reported in Albany, New York, covering state politics and the United Nations during international crises.

She was also the anchor of News 12’s top-rated morning news show, the 3-hour-long Morning News Program. She hosted “Reporter Roundtable”, News 12’s weekly news talk show. Browne was a WBAB host for a few mornings, a long-running Long Island FM radio station that plays rock music. For a short time, she was the substitute news anchor alongside DJ Bob Buchman.

Browne was an anchor on MSNBC and hosted Weekend Morning Line, a 2-hour weekend program. She covered live interviews and unscripted news during her time at MSNBC. Browne was a substitute anchor for CNBC.

Browne joined Fox News Channel as a host of the headline update on several Fox News channels. She also substitute-anchored numerous shows. Browne was a frequent guest-panelist for Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld’s late-night talk show Red Eye. Browne was also one of the co-hosts on Fox’s Fox & Friends First, which preceded Fox & Friends. In February 2018, Browne left the network.

Her book, Write Your Own Story, how I took control by letting go, was published May 2022 by Post Hill Press. Simon & Schuster distributed it. It was described as “A witty, candid glimpse of cable news from a long-time reporter who left the spotlight to find joy in family, faith, and simple pleasures.”

Personal

Browne lives with her husband in New York City. Browne was born in Queens, New York. She is the identical twin sister to her younger sister. Browne is Roman Catholic. She was inducted into Brooklyn’s Hall of Fame by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn in 2012.
